Network+ - the ideal certification for networking skills development

Network+, CompTIA`s (Computing Technology Industry Association) vendor-neutral certification programme for networking technicians, is gaining increasing recognition worldwide as the accepted means to acquire a sound skills base in networking technology.

"Network+ has been accepted by the leading networking vendors, and included in many of their training curricula," says CompTIA international sales and marketing director Adrian Schofield. "Additionally, the fact that the new MCSE 2000 track no longer includes the previously compulsory introductory networking module leaves a gap that could potentially be filled by Network+."

Network + is targeted at technicians with 18-24 months of networking technology experience in the IT industry. A typical candidate would have A+ certification or equivalent knowledge, but this is not essential.

The certification covers two broad areas: networking technologies, which evaluates basic knowledge, security and TCP/IP fundamentals; and networking practices, which tests a candidate`s application of basic knowledge in maintaining a network and assessing and responding to problems.

"Network+ certification provides IT professionals with a credential that is recognised and valued throughout the industry," Schofield continues. "Certification helps get a foot in the door with a prospective employer or client because it identifies the professional`s achievement level. Anyone interested in their professional services will immediately know that they have the ability to get the job done right. Employers often use certification as a condition for employment and later reward certifications earned with job promotions."
