Cabletron EMEA channel product marketing manager, Chris Gabriel, said the changing demands on corporate networks, increased requirements for bandwidth and convergence of voice, video and data all contribute to the need for higher-speed networks.
He added that traditional routing products couldn`t deliver on these high-bandwidth requirements. "Software-based routers, while richly featured, are slow and unable to address latency and quality of service issues required by next-generation applications.
"Products need to deliver performance, functionality, capacity, manageability as well as on price, making the router switch an attractive proposition for most networks."
He said SmartSwitch Routers would deliver a combination of benefits, including routing throughput of between 15 and 30 million packets-per-second and delivering wire-speed routing at gigabit rates. Extensive management capabilities are also provided for.
