Computer Associates International, (CA) has announced that NetworkIT
2.0 was the official network management platform of the NetWorld+Interop
Event Network (eNet). CA`s industry-leading network management software
served as one of the world`s largest short-term networks, to provide
Ethernet and Fast Ethernet connectivity to all exhibitors and to the event`s
tutorial, workshop and conference sessions. The InteropNet Event Network and
the InteropNet Labs (iLabs) was featured at NetWorld+Interop, which took
place Sept. 14-17 at the Georgia World Congress Centre in Atlanta.
NetworkIT 2.0 assisted in proactively managing the InteropNet Event Network,
NetWorld+Interop`s network infrastructure and all managed network devices,
and was used to auto discover all computing equipment on the exhibit floor.
Using this information, NetworkIT 2.0 empowered the eNet`s technical staff
to effectively monitor and solve any issues arising on the network.
"The eNet represents the ultimate challenge for any management tool, since
it`s such an intensive communications environment and has to be put up so
quickly," said Steve Wylie, director of network operations at
NetWorld+Interop. "NetworkIT 2.0 was instrumental in managing our extremely
diverse networked environment."
The extensive event management capabilities of NetworkIT provided the eNet
Network Operations Centre team with a global view of the network, including
all IT assets serviced by the network, and enabled them to set up
appropriate alarm thresholds for each IT resource type. Working closely
with CA`s Unicenter TNG Advanced Help Desk, the official help desk solution
for the eNet, NetworkIT 2.0 enabled the automatic reporting, escalation and
resolution of problems before they impacted operations.
"We`re very excited that NetworkIT 2.0 was chosen to manage the complex
environment of NetWorld+Interop," said Imran Anwar, product manager for
network management solutions at CA. "This is the perfect forum to showcase
attendees to witness in person why this full-function solution has been
widely acclaimed by analysts, the media and our corporate customers."
The InteropNet Event Network provides connectivity to more than 500
NetWorld+Interop exhibitors, conference rooms and meeting rooms, serving
approximately 50,000 attendees. In a corporate setting, the InteropNet
Event Network would be capable of handling the capacity and load of a global
world-class enterprise organization with more than 12,000 users.
NetworkIT 2.0 enables IT organizations to resolve and avoid problems
automatically, ensuring availability and performance service levels across
internal and external networks, Internet service providers, and frame relay
and ATM networks. It also includes compatibility libraries and migration
tools for existing network management products such as HPOpenView and
IBM/TivoliTME NetView.
NetworkIT 2.0 monitors pathways as well as performance between any two end
points on the network. Unlike some existing network offerings that require
manual polling, NetworkIT 2.0 continually monitors network connections and
service levels based on predefined policies. In the case of performance
degradation, NetworkIT 2.0 notifies appropriate personnel and can take
corrective measures automatically.
Like all of CA`s Advanced, Enterprise and Workgroup Edition products,
NetworkIT 2.0 is built on proven Unicenter TNG Framework technology. By
using the sophisticated management services of Unicenter TNG, such as auto
discovery, calendar, communications and object repository, NetworkIT 2.0
delivers unparalleled functionality and scalability.
Users also receive the benefits of Unicenter TNG`s Real World Interface (2D,
3D, Windows and Web-based) and Business Process Views. Business Process
Views highlight the impact of network problems on the business, allowing
network managers to identify the business processes or services affected by
the problem, and to take appropriate corrective action and assist in
isolating the cause.
