Johannesburg, 10 Feb 2004

3Com has introduced the Switch 7700R - the company`s highest-performing switch to date -to the South African enterprise market. Available immediately, the Switch 7700R offers enterprise-class resiliency that is so desperately needed by companies that run campus-wide core applications.

With one second fail-over to a redundant switch fabric, the Switch 7700R offers significantly higher availability that is critical for sophisticated enterprise customers.

The Switch 7700R is part of the modular 3Com Switch 7700 family that was first introduced into the enterprise market in June 2003.

"We are extremely excited about this global release of our flagship Switch 7700R and believe that large enterprises in SA will benefit significantly from its high availability and powerful switching features," comments Gary Boniface, CSO manager at 3Com SA.

3Com has also introduced advanced software for its Switch 7700 family. For example, support for the BGP4 and IS-IS routing protocol offers greater scalability for service provider solutions across a metropolitan area networks (MANs), while SNMP version 3 secures remote management.

Looking at other Switch 7700R features, the local switching on each blade along with a high-performance switch fabric provides up to 64Gbps of performance to address switching requirements at the core of the network.

"Resiliency is always a key issue for enterprise customers, and the Switch 7700R will go a long way to address this concern," says Boniface.
