New 3Com SuperStack 3 Switch

Johannesburg, 18 Mar 2003

3Com has released an addition to its range of stackable 10/100 switches and announced an enhancement to its management software.

The new SuperStack 3 Switch 4228G is part of 3Com`s Layer 2 managed switch line up designed to provide support for a wide range of business applications, end-user devices and Gigabit media connectivity options.

The unit has 24 auto-sensing copper 10/100 copper ports to provide flexible desktop and workgroup attachments, while two auto-sensing 10/100/1000 copper ports can be used for plug-and-play stacking with up to three other Switch 4200 family devices.

Chris van Niekerk, country manager at 3Com SA, says the SuperStack 3 Switch 4228G, is targeted at Ethernet corporate networks, and features premium switching performance and the flexibility of fibre or copper Gigabit uplinks, while the Version 2.0 software offers increased resilience and aggregation capabilities.

Key features of Version 2.0 software include:

* Automated configuration of aggregated links (LACP) for greater resiliency;

* Stacking - up to four units in the Switch 4200 Series can be stacked using the 10/100/1000BASE-T Ports; and

* Integrated stack management with a single IP address.

Although Version 2.0 ships with the Switch 4228G, companies that purchased Switch 4250T and Switch 4226T products on or after 20 January 2003 may obtain the software at no additional cost.
