New 3Com switch boosts security, scalability, performance

Johannesburg, 22 Jan 2004

3Com Corporation has unveiled a new enterprise-class security services switch said to be capable of addressing specific vulnerabilities or blended threats in medium and large organisations.

The 3Com Security Switch 6200 is a security platform that supports multiple applications - such as Check Point NG FireWall, 1/VPN-1, Internet Security Systems (ISS) RealSecure intrusion detection, anti-virus, content filtering, and more.

The 3Com Security Switch 6200 complements 3Com`s existing security portfolio by delivering multi-applications security, performance and reliability required by large enterprise deployments, such as regional- or head-office networks and data centres.

"With growing threats from Internet hackers and e-mail viruses, enterprise security has become a business-critical issue," says Chris van Niekerk, MD of 3Com South Africa. "With the new 3Com Security Switch 6200, enterprises now have a truly effective, multiple-service security solution that is cost- and labour-effective."

The 3Com Security Switch 6200 is aligned with the 3Com "pervasive network strategy" of moving beyond being a provider of point products that reside as network add-ons to be a provider of a security framework that is the network.

The 3Com Security Switch 6200 is a result of a strategic alliance and original equipment manufacturer agreement announced late last year (2003) between 3Com and Crossbeam Systems, a leading global developer of total security solutions. Under the agreement, 3Com markets, sells and supports Crossbeam`s security services switches to enterprise customers under the 3Com brand.
