Acer has launched a new series of Acer Aspire 2000 notebooks designed for the professional user, self-employed or in small businesses, who needs to work simultaneously on several sheets or documents, or who wants to enjoy maximised screen usage for DVD videos.
Gary De Menezes, director and business unit manager: notebooks at Acer, says the Aspire 2000 will find favour among business users who are looking for a power notebook, without compromising on battery life, connectivity or processing power.
Acer Aspire 2000 notebooks feature an Intel Pentium M processor with a maximum capacity of 1.6GHz and an Intel 855GM chipset, have an integrated 802.11b wireless connection and extremely powerful batteries designed using Intel`s Mobile Centrino technology.
"The 512MB DDR memory can be expanded up to 2.0GB. The HDD, with capacities up to 60GB, and the DVD/CD-RW or DVD-RW combo drives enable Aspire 2000 notebooks to offer the same performance as current desktops along with maximum independence," says De Menezes.
The new series incorporates a bright wide 15.4-inch TFT display, capable of offering resolutions of 1280 x 800 (WXGA) and 16.7 million colours. Pano-Vision ensures that all kind of video formats fully fit the screen, whereas Eagle-Vision dynamically adjusts saturation, brightness and contrast. The graphic chipset is an ATI Radeon 9200 card with a DDR memory of 64MB.
Acer Aspire 2000 notebooks support DualView that enables the simultaneous management of a LCD display and an external CRT monitor. The stereo section, compatible with MS-Sound, integrates speakers and a microphone. The connection features of Acer Aspire 2000 notebooks comprise a 56Kbps ITU V.92 certified fax modem, a Gigabit Ethernet network card and Wireless connections based on standard IEEE 802.11b.
All Acer Aspire 2000 models offer a wide range of I/O ports: 1 parallel port, one infrared port (FIR) and three USB 2.0 ports. The notebooks also feature a VGA connector for the external monitor, a S-Video port (NTSC/PAL) and a Type II CardBus PCMCIA slot.
Model Aspire 2000 also has a Firewire IEEE 1394 port that enables to connect high performance multimedia devices for data transmission. All models have a 4-in-1 card reader that supports Secure Digital, SmartMedia, MultiMediaCard and Memory Stick.

Notebooks are supplied with Microsoft Windows XP, pre-installed on the Recovery CD. The software package supplied comprises: Adobe Acrobat Reader, Norton AntiVirus to protect the system from intrusions and viruses and NTI CD Maker to "write" CD-RW or DVD-RW media.
All Acer notebooks come with a standard one-year international guarantee. Users may also purchase the new AcerAdvantage service that extends the guarantee to three years and includes a special coverage for accidental damage.
