Unisys Africa has appointed Frederick Daniels to the senior management position of area sales director for its Western Cape branch. As such he becomes a member of the Unisys Africa senior management team.
Daniels will take total management responsibility for the Western Cape region, with the primary responsibilities of directing the overall sales operations, managing the sales planning process, and ensuring excellent maintenance, support and general IT services for new and existing clients.
"My strategy is to take the existing Western Cape Unisys branch and improve its general sales position, extend our market position, and increase the percentage we hold in that market," Daniels says. "I plan to build on the infrastructure and reputation that Unisys already has in that region, as well as the national and international reputation of the company, and make the Western Cape branch one of the most effective business units of Unisys Africa."
His experience in the industry ranges across the telecommunications, media and public sectors. He has managed and lead operations, sales, services and project management staff, and has developed a strong focus on human resources management.
He has held various positions in multinational and local companies in SA over the last 20 years. He started his career at IBM working in operations. He left IBM as an associate systems engineer to join the media group Naspers.
After 15 years at Naspers, he moved to professional IT services firm New Dawn Technologies as a business development manager. While there he was heavily involved in a project to roll-out multimedia centres into African countries.
He has also held various board memberships, including both executive and non-executive director positions.
Daniels has participated in a number of key corporate social investment projects, most notable among these being the CITI (Cape IT Initiative) incubation programme run in the Western Cape to promote and facilitate small and medium business in the IT sector.
He was involved with projects such as GautengOnline and Khanya in the Eastern Cape, and has played an instrumental role in Business for Computer Literacy, a Section 21 company that partners with local organisations to place computer centres at schools across the country.
