New bizhub extends colour capabilities

The bizhub Pro C65hc with its High Chroma toner aims to revamp colour re-production, providing an array of colours to boost production printing.

This is the opinion of Leon Minnie, product specialist in production systems at Konica Minolta SA, who says with the recent restructuring of Konica Minolta to focus on production printing, the company has grown to have a 30% market share.

He says the C65hc is aimed at graphic arts companies, commercial printers, and advertising agencies. “Creatives will particularly enjoy the large colour gamut and being able to re-produce previously unattainable bright and saturated colours.”

The printers use a High Chroma toner for colour production printing, explains Minnie, which he says was developed on the basis of Konica Minolta's Simitri HD toner technology.

“It is produced in a special polymerisation process, which uses miniscule and uniformly shaped particles to produce an image quality previously unknown. It can reproduce a colour gamut extremely close to that of sRGB using CMYK toner.

The High Chroma toner also requires lower fusing temperatures than conventional toners, which the company says is a benefit for users, while also producing lower CO2 emissions.

A common acronym in the Web development world, the 'what you see is what you get' process, allows developers to see how their designs look in real-time. “This is the new maxim for High Chroma toner, and the complicated conversion process from sRBG into CMYK is now a thing of the past,” says the company.

“With communication channels covering print, online and mobile communication, professionals have been changing their colour management from traditional RGB to CMYK,” explains Minnie, adding that this results in a loss in colour saturation due to the small colour gamut of CMYK.

"Our bizhub C65hc is suitable for producing material for cross-media advertising and variable printing," says Minnie. "It is also ideal for creating direct mail, brochures or POS materials in vivid colours.”
