Duxbury Networking has released a new WiMax broadband solution from its principal, Alvarion, designed to help speed the deployment of broadband infrastructures in the licence-free or licence-exempt frequency bands.
Dubbed BreezeMAX Extreme, the new offering will allow service providers to address multiple market segments, including residential and business customers in rural areas, offering them enhanced, carrier-class quality of service and security.
“It's a standardised WiMax solution that should also lower the cost of broadband connectivity for a variety of applications, resulting in an improved business case for Internet service providers,” says Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking.
The BreezeMAX Extreme family of offerings is based on an all-outdoor zero-footprint platform designed specifically for global licence-exempt frequency bands, including South Africa's 5GHz band.
“BreezeMAX Extreme will bring the benefits of a complete, carrier-class 802.16e WiMax offering to the licence-free market segment,” says Robb. “It also integrates the necessary components - the radio base station, antenna, ASN gateway and GPS receiver - in one compact unit, facilitating easy deployment on towers, rooftops and street poles.”
He says that in addition to being scalable and flexible, BreezeMAX Extreme employs complex interference mitigation techniques, including dynamic frequency selection (DFS) and automatic frequency selection (AFS).
“More markets are opening their doors to a wireless broadband infrastructure, which presents wireless Internet service providers (WISPs) with a range of business opportunities linked to meeting growing demand for high-speed Internet services in rural areas.
