New broom sweeps clean at Attachmate

Johannesburg, 15 Jun 1998

Following recent restructuring the new management team at Attachmate SA has changed an element of its distribution model, wholeheartedly embraced the credo of product support and extended a global special pricing offer to local users. Litisha Richardson, corporate sales manager at the local subsidiary, describes the new approach as a significant departure from that of previous years. "The newly adopted one-tier distribution model in respect of our enterprise-host product group cuts out the middle man to the benefit of Attachmate, its customers and the end-users," she says. "Dealing directly with resellers means we are now closer to our users. This puts us in a position to offer better retail pricing while also providing incentive for dealers to move our product." Coupled to this is the company`s recent decision to offer full support to all users, regardless of where they bought the product. "The new management team has adopted an attitude of `the buck stops here`. Anyone with an Attachmate product must have access to our support infrastructure," says Richardson. Finally, the company is offering users a special offer to upgrade all locally purchased copies of EXTRA! Personal Client (E!PC) software for a third of what it will cost when E!PC 6.4 ships in July. "Although the global offer runs out in May, we have extended it locally until the end of June," she comments. This offer is made possible under Attachmate`s maintenance policy and is applicable to users that are one version behind. New features of E!PC 6.4 include an integrated tool for configuring, distributing, installing, upgrading and taking inventory -- including metering capabilities to monitor usage and licensing needs; cut/copy/paste enhancements which allow users to automate tasks by continuously pasting. "These would have required repetitive cutting and pasting in previous releases," says Richardson. Enhanced transport has resulted in significantly improved performance when handling HLAPPI transactions and a new dialogue box allows multiple files to be dragged and dropped into a batch - as opposed to having to transfer only one file at a time. Richardson says these features, and more, will be on display as the Attachmate SA road show wends its way around the country during the month of June.
