Johannesburg, 08 Mar 2007

Brother (through its local distributor Brotek) announced the release of its new multifunction centre, the MFC-8860DN.

The new model is loaded with features to help small to medium enterprises (SMEs) and workgroups streamline their everyday communications and printing needs, saving time and money.

Combing speed and laser technology, the MFC-8860DN is an extension of the MFC-8460N and is network-ready, has up to 28ppm print speed, 1 200 x 1 200dpi print resolution, a 50-sheet multipurpose tray, 250-sheet paper tray, 32MB memory (expandable to 544MB), plus five new features; scan to FTP server, custom scan profile storage, LDAP, a secure function lock, and a fax receiving time stamp. The MFC-8860DN also features automatic duplex capability for two-sided printing, copying, faxing and scanning.

MFC-8860DN - high performance five-in-one multifunction centre for business workgroups

The MFC-8860DN is a fast, reliable MFC capable of handling the ongoing document needs of most busy office environments and comes with the entire base features found on the MFC-8460N:

* Up to 28ppm print speed, 28cpm copy speed
* Standard built-in Ethernet network interface
* Up to 1 200 x 1 200dpi print quality
* 250-sheet paper capacity (total capacity expandable to 550-sheets)
* Up to 50-sheet multipurpose tray standard
* 32MB base memory (expandable to 544MB)

The MFC-8860DN also comes with Automatic Duplex (two sided):

* Duplex printing - Saves paper and money by allowing you to print on both sides of the page and reduces the bulk and weight of large documents
* Duplex copying - Allows you to scan a large multi-page, single-sided document and then print them on half the paper (odd pages on front, even pages on back)
* Duplex fax send/receiving - Saves paper by printing incoming faxes on each side of the paper
* Duplex scanning - Scan two-sided or single-sided originals into your PC/Mac

The ability to output two-sided documents means considerable cost savings for customers and it also offers an environmentally responsible option for paper use. This print option can be set as a default or simply used on demand.

The MFC has a convenient flatbed design that accommodates either single sheets or bound documents for copying, faxing, or scanning. Their convenient up to 50-sheet ADF also makes it easy to handle multi-page documents. All of the models are also compatible with both PC and Mac operating systems (Windows 98/NT4.0/2000/Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 9.1-9.2, OS X 10.2.4 or greater). Standard emulations of PCL 6 and BR-Script 3 (PostScript 3) are included with the MFC as well.

With the ability to function as a digital copier, the new MFC supports reduction and enlargement of documents from 25-400% in 1% increments, makes up to 99 copies and include sorting functionalities. Copies up to A4 size can be made from both the glass and the automatic document feeder (ADF).

As a full-function standalone fax machine, the MFC supports up to 340 speed dial locations, and also incorporates dual access and broadcast faxing features. It also stores up to 600 pages for Quick Scan faxing or out-of-paper fax reception. Standalone fax and copy operation is standard on Brother's MFC line, so a computer is not required.

When operating as a scanner, these units are capable of colour scanning 600 x 2 400dpi interpolated resolution. For Windows and OS X 10.2.4 or greater based users, there is an easy-to-use "scan to" button for scanning directly to an FTP site, image application, OCR, e-mail application or file. The colour scanner function comes bundled with document management and OCR software. ScanSoft PaperPort SE with OCR software is available for Windows and Presto! Page Manager (which also includes an OCR application) is available for Mac users.

All Brother products come with the back up of the helpline and technical support and a 12-month warranty. All users can log on to the Brother Solutions centre at http://solutions.brother.com to view FAQs and to receive the full benefit of their machine's functionality.
