A partnership between Xvector and Giscoe over the last year has resulted in Find-X, an asset tracking solution which delivers information to the client`s cellphone.
"Imagine being able to check on the functioning of your company`s resources while you are away from the office, or tracking the progress of your fleet no matter where it is in the country," says Etienne Louw, business development manager at Giscoe. "Now imagine being able to do all this from the comfort of your home or office."
Find-X comes shortly after the release of the companies` XTrac asset tracking solution.
"Being in the business of asset management, we realised that this is an easy to use mechanism to trace assets. There are many sophisticated systems out there, but Find-X is a cheap, quick way of finding out where someone or something is," says Louw. "Now I can find out if my driver is in Pretoria, Midrand or Johannesburg without having to call and ask him."
To start the process, the user sends the number of the person to be tracked to 36995. The person to be tracked will receive an SMS asking permission, to which they should answer with a command such as 'once`, 'hour`, 'year` or 'always`, indicating how long they consent.
"That`s it," says Louw. "Within seconds you will receive an SMS telling you the suburb and closest road intersection of the tracked phone. We are excited that this is the first time that tracking across network providers is possible. For the first time MTN and Cell C users can track Vodacom users."
Though you are able to track from any phone and network, for now users can only track Vodacom phones. Louw says the solution will be upgraded to enable it to track all South African cellular networks.
Find-X also combines services like Look4me and Look4it in one solution. There are no subscription costs.
"No monthly subscription, no limits, no having to register, just simply R5 per request. The SMSes sent to confirm consent are at normal SMS charges," says Louw.
