Recently-listed Vodacom has appointed former MD of Nedbank , Rob Shuter, as its new chief financial officer.

Shuter will take over the company`s financial affairs from acting CFO Johan van der Watt, who has been in the position since mid-2008. Van der Watt`s acting position saw Vodacom through its divorce from Telkom and its listing on the JSE in May.

Van der Watt replaced industry veteran, Leon Crouse, who had worked at Vodacom since 1993. Crouse moved from Vodacom to take over as Remgro`s financial director.

"I am pleased that Johan van der Watt, who has been acting chief financial officer since April 2008 and who helped steer Vodacom successfully through our listing, will remain with Vodacom as chief officer of group finance," says Vodacom CEO Pieter Uys.

Vodacom says Shuter will take up a position on the company`s board and will also become a member of its executive management committee. "He will also serve on a number of subsidiary boards."

He will begin his tenure at Vodacom as of the beginning of next month. "Shuter`s appointment will build on Vodacom`s excellent financial platform and raise the bar in the way we run the business and report to shareholders," says Uys.
