Logitech has announced two new cameras designed to combine the communication features of a Webcam with the freedom of conventional handheld cameras.

The Logitech ClickSmart 510 and ClickSmart 310 are said to offer rich, quality images with sophisticated contoured design features. They can be used attached or detached from a personal computer, offering the flexibility to take pictures and videos both indoors or outdoors.

The cameras feature Logitech`s one-click QuickSync technology for instant and easy picture downloading, which enables automatic image transfer once the cameras are connected to the PC.

"Simply connect the camera to the computer through the USB adapter, and Logitech`s integrated downloads stored images immediately to a photo gallery," says Shawn Bezuidenhout, sales manager at Logitech South Africa. "Then with just a few mouse clicks, users can quickly send pictures and videos to family and friends via e-mails or Web albums."

ClickSmart 510

As Logitech`s premier camera, ClickSmart 510 allows a still image resolution up to 1.3 Megapixels and features a built-in microphone, automatic strobe flash, SmartMedia port and self-timer. With 8MB SmartMedia memory card supplied, it can store up to 480 pictures or 90 seconds of video. Users can add standard SmartMedia cards to expand picture-taking capacity. ClickSmart 510 will retail for R1 999.99.

ClickSmart 310

ClickSmart 310 is an easy-to-use, affordable, pocket-size camera which allows full video communication over the web, together with camera flexibility. The ClickSmart 310 can store up to 160 photos and 15 seconds of video captured away from the PC. It allows a still image resolution up to VGA (640 x 480) pixels, a self-timer and a protective lens cap. ClickSmart 310 will retail for R999.99.

When attached to the PC, both ClickSmart cameras take advantage of Logitech`s premium Web camera software, which allows users to:

* exchange instant messages enriched with video;
* create video e-mail messages with one-click ease;
* make video calls over the Internet using Microsoft NetMeeting;
* direct stop-motion and time-lapse animated movies;
* set up a video monitoring system using Digital Radar II;
* "point, click and broadcast" with SpotLife Personal Video Broadcasting; and
* organise pictures and videos in an integrated gallery.

ClickSmart 510 and 310 are powered by four standard AAA batteries, which are included. Both products use a USB connection and are compatible with Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME, and Windows XP. A two-year limited hardware warranty is included.
