A Creative team from Singapore last week unveiled two digital cameras, a credit card sized audio player, a multi-purpose speaker system, and a decoder for connecting a wide variety of digital sound output devices at Sahara's headquarters in Midrand.
"These products are examples of lifestyle technology aimed at evoking an emotional response and attachment," says Francis Hau, Creative Labs marketing manager.
The entry-level PC CAM900 camera offers digital camera, webcam, and movie clip functionality at just under R900, while the 3.2 Megapixel DC-CAM 3200Z offers combined digital and optical zoom up to 12 times magnification, intelligent strobe flash, and MPEG4 continuous video and audio for around R2 300.
"The devices are useful, interesting, affordable and practical, which falls in line with what Sahara advocates in terms of technology for the local market," says Atul Gupta, Sahara MD.
Creative's MuVo Slim is the latest addition to the MuVo family of portable audio products. "MuVo Slim is designed for the individual who appreciates rich features combined with ultimate portability and style," says Hau. "Credit card sized and just 7mm thick, the MuVo Slim fits easily into a shirt pocket or purse."
The MuVo slim features an FM radio plus FM recording capability, and provides up to 17 hours continuous playing time. "MuVo Slim has built in support for the Windows Media Player 9 and is compatible with a wide range of online music services," says Hau. "The MuVo Slim will retail at just over R1 000 for the 128MB version and just under R1 500 for the 256MB version."
Creative's new THX certified Gigaworks 7.1 surround sound speaker system delivers 700Watts total system power. "This feature rich system provides the ultimate for power and realism in PC gaming and audio clarity for music and movies," says Hau. "It's the only PC speaker system matched perfectly for DVD-audio quality."
Gupta says the release of the Gigaworks 7.1 speaker system, [which retails at around R5 230] marks an exciting new phase in the development of digital audio equipment. "
For an additional R1 250, the Creative DDTS-100 decoder adds connectivity to a wide variety of audio output devices for the Gigaworks system. "The DDTS-100 transforms PC speakers into a home entertainment sound solution," points out Hau. "The decoder maximises investment in the Gigaworks system through integration and is a true example of convergence."
