New CS Holdings e-commerce trainers ready for first student intake

Johannesburg, 24 Jan 2002

The five candidates selected by JSE-listed CS Holdings` IT training division, CS Education Solutions, to undergo a three-month intensive train-the-trainer program on e-commerce technologies have successfully completed their studies and are eager to begin training the first intake of students in January 2002.

Wim Viljoen, Willem van der Merwe, Khotso Ramagaga, Craig Lane and Llewellyn Morkel will present the advanced G-Tech and E-Tech courses from Indian IT skills company Tata Infotech at CS Holdings` offices in Midrand, Cape Town and Durban.

"All the trainers hail from an IT, commerce or engineering background and were selected on the basis of their education credentials, which demonstrated to us that they are capable of quickly grasping essential concepts, upon which the G-Tech and E-Tech courses are based," says CS Education Solutions project manager Dan Ellappa. "We have no doubt that the individuals selected for this program are not only highly competent and experts in their field, but now possess a level of expertise that is currently extremely rare, if not unique, in SA."

The trainers speak exceptionally highly of the G-Tech and E-Tech courses. "Initially, the curriculum seems to resemble that of a three-year Informatics degree, but once the program gets underway it soon becomes apparent that is more practical," says Wim Viljoen. "Both the E-Tech and G-Tech courses are very hands-on and teach you various skills simultaneously. For example, although there is no formal project management module, the various e-commerce and programming concepts are taught in such a way that project management skills are acquired in the process."

Willem van der Merwe believes that the courses provide an added dimension to an Informatics degree, which he holds. "These courses teach you exactly what you need to know without including unnecessary theory," he declares. "They are top-notch and no other course available in SA comes close to providing what G-Tech and E-Tech provide."

Khotso Ramagaga echoes this sentiment: "Everything you learn is relevant and useful, and each new concept taught builds on the previous one."

"The beauty of this training is that it is not computer-based, although it can be enhanced through relevant TBT training," adds Craig Lane. "Being instructor-led, students are not left to study in their own time and so do not fall behind in their studies. Additionally, if they run into a problem a lecturer is immediately on hand to help."

According to Ellappa, more than 500 calls regarding the G-Tech and E-Tech course have already been received, and the company is expecting a January 2002 intake of around 200 students in Midrand, and 150 in Durban and Cape Town respectively. "If the intake is this high, we will definitely recruit more trainers so as to meet the increasing demands of the marketplace," he concludes.
