New Dimension Software has installed its latest version of its systems management software, Enterprise Control Station 5.0.0, at a bank and a major retailer in South Africa. The sites are two of 10 beta sites worldwide, including the Netherlands, the US and Germany. New Dimension international technical director Shlomi Bernthal, who is in South Africa to oversee the installations with local distributor Software Futures, says ECS 5.0.0 will run in parallel with existing software for three to six months. "We are delighted to have two mature sites in South Africa which support scheduling for the very large volumes of jobs that ECS 5.0.0 manages," says Bernthal. "ECS 5.0.0 supports sites which process between 200 000 and 300 000 jobs a day." In terms of the co-operation agreement, New Dimension will provide onsite technical support, and the clients, which have asked not to be named during beta testing, will provide feedback on the product. Bernthal says enhancements include the ability to install ECS 5.0.0 at distributed sites, such as at AT&T, one of the company`s largest ECS customers.. "ECS 5.0.0 has a modular design, which means control can be consolidated in one place, or modules can reside at different sites." ECS 5.0.0 has been tested at installations with up to 100 sites. "We haven`t pushed the envelope further, simply because there are not many installations with more than that number." ECS 5.0.0`s advanced GUI provides a similar look and feel to Windows NT, and users can view data side-by-side on screen. Bernthal says minimum retraining will be needed for the new version.
