New Dimension Software has announced that its IOA/e (Integrated Operations Architecture for the Enterprise) suite will be enhanced to support the Linux platform, starting with Control-M, the company`s flagship production control and job scheduling product.
An integral part of New Dimension`s Enterprise Production Management solution, Control-M automates the setup, scheduling and monitoring of processes running across the computing environment.
Control-M supports over 20 major platforms. These include MVS, Windows NT, Tandem, VAX, AS/400, OS/2200 and several versions of Unix including AIX, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, Pyramid, Sequent, SunOS, NCR and now Linux.
Many organisations are starting to deploy applications on Linux due to its potential as a stable and reliable operating system. Additionally, companies are implementing Linux in production environments, including Internet infrastructure, Web service and mail, among others. Control-M support for Linux brings production control capabilities to the heterogeneous environments and allows data centre personnel to manage the production activity on Linux.
"We have seen an increasing number of organisations using Linux in their production environments. As such, Linux is gaining support from the industry`s leading vendors," says Allen Lewis, MD of systems management at local New Dimension distributor Software Futures. "The importance of providing automation and management for this environment is growing and it clearly has the potential of becoming an integral part of the enterprise. With Control-M, we can bring advanced scheduling and production management to manage the processes in this new and developing platform."
Control-M is based on a three-tiered architecture comprised of the Enterprise Controlstation and Control-M servers and agents. The Enterprise Controlstation, a graphical user interface (GUI), provides a focal point of control to the production environment, passing global conditions to the managed systems. The platform-independent Control-M servers perform the production tasks; they then relay the workflow, job status and other relevant information to the agents.
Together, the components are designed to integrate different platforms into the production environment, while maintaining a consolidated view of production activities across the enterprise.
As organisations expand their enterprise to include the e-commerce market and transaction numbers increase, companies must have a robust solution that can manage and control these environments. Control-M and the Enterprise Controlstation enable data centre personnel to manage a large number of transactions from a central point and provide a convenient method for end-users to define, control and view the results of their activities.
Control-M support for Linux will be available from New Dimension at the end of Q2 1999.
