A new range of Domino outer case industrial printers designed primarily for applications in the marking and coding of bulk cardboard cartons for the food and beverage industry, is available in SA from Coditech.
Known as the C6000, the range has network capabilities that allow multiple printers to be linked together, giving end-users the option to code using multi-head and multi-production line configurations to mark date, batch and other variable information on carton outer casings.
Coditech has sole distribution rights in SA for the international Domino range of industrial printers. Ted Michel, divisional manager of Coditech, the variable data coding and marking division of the JSE-listed Square One Solutions Group, says the C6000 range adds further value to technology developments that have resulted in improved print quality, greater flexibility and significant cost savings combined with total reliability.
"The C6000 range meets a number of specific market requirements. Some of the most important are central control for multiple printers, reduced local user interface, multi-user security and the option of an industrial controller. There are a number of kits available to meet the varying needs of food and beverage manufacturers."
The flagship kit, known as the C6000 Multi System Pro, provides a complete coding and marking solution. It offers bar code standard print capability for twin side coding and includes the touch-screen industrial controller which allows users to create labels centrally and download them via the Domino network. A network hub provides easy connection to the two printers and also gives the option of full PC control or local selection of pre-stored labels.
"These systems are suitable for highly sophisticated packaging environments using online networked systems. The Domino C-Series enhances efficiency because it reduces box inventory and stock planning -- all that is needed are blank cases to code onto. The equipment is highly flexible and adaptable with international language capabilities, a large memory storage capacity for frequent product changes as well as interfaces for ancillary devices such as product detectors, shaft encoders, PC links and other serial communications."
The C6000 high definition printers print real-time, variable data, multiple line text, online graphics and all major bar codes onto porous outer case cartons. The technology also offers networking solutions for complete connectivity and greater control over printing.
The system allows centralised control of factory-wide coding and complete integration into the production process. Pigmented oil-based inks are used with the high definition model to ensure an exceptionally sharp contrast, even on brown board.
"Key benefits to manufacturers are savings on the cost of labels as a result of direct printing onto cartons and the elimination of in-house stockholdings of pre-printed cases. The cartons are also easier to recycle after use," says Michel.
