New e-mail analysis system cuts costs

Johannesburg, 13 May 2002

It`s become critically important to cost-effectively manage exponential growth in e-mail traffic, a trend characterised by the increasing number of company mail servers and the rapid development of mail-enabled applications.

E-mail management systems are clearly beneficial in this context but the effectiveness of such systems can be vastly enhanced by easy to digest overviews of aspects such as system functionality, traffic history and usage patterns for analysis and control by network administrators and management.

That`s what it`s all about when it comes to the local launch by e-business enabler, WebSoft, of the "OmniAnalyser" mail server analysis and reporting system from Hypersoft.

WebSoft has secured the South African agency for OmniAnalyser, a system which company CEO Joao Frasco describes as nothing less than the most comprehensive of its kind.

Says Frasco: "Clearly, there is no underestimating the productive role and benefits of e-mail in modern business. But e-mail has become a major cost as the propensity for abuse or misuse grows in direct proportion to the growth traffic, for a variety of reasons.

WebSoft has been developing software solutions for a variety of industries and markets with a number of recent successes in the financial services industry.

"We secured the distribution rights for the OmniAnalyser in response to a number of client requests for a locally supported product with analysis and reporting functionality that were unique to the OmniAnalyser product. We firmly believe that based on current demands it will be well received within the local market.

"Operating complementarily with leading messaging systems including Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino and Sendmail, the OmniAnalyser system provides solutions for problems with its industry-leading e-mail analysis and reporting capabilities.

It`s a powerful tool with multiple features and benefits in analysing all company e-mail activity in easy to generate Web-based reports for authorised personnel via the corporate intranet or from any computer on the Internet.

"All data is collected and pre-processed by the software in advance, ensuring reports are available in real-time. The information is easy to digest, using interactive graphs and tables which allow for brief, informative overviews or extensive drill-downs.

"Moreover, the system does not need additional client software and its distributed architecture allows collection of all necessary data from multiple servers and sites over existing e-mail traffic and which is exportable to office applications.

"There is therefore minimal impact on network load and the all important factor of operational stability is assured.

"The added benefit of the system is its ASP capabilities. OmniAnalyser caters for smaller companies that cannot afford to host the system on their own servers as well as the larger organisations that would prefer to have the software on a hosted server.

"Primary features include complete analysis of company mail traffic, both internally and externally, reporting on traffic history and usage patterns for analysis as well as control over information store usage. Important to today`s demands for exceptional service, OmniAnalyser, audits service level agreements by analysing mail delivery times ensuring mail is delivered within specific time frames, as well as checking system availability. Other features include monitoring current and historic server status, billing statistics by individual business units as well as control over information store usage.

"Benefits include collection and extrapolation of usage trends and other management tasks, checking the mail system for configuration correctness and capacity planning and other system management activities.

"The system does not infringe upon employee privacy and its application ensures significantly improved overall operational efficiency, leading to cost savings.

"In short, the OmniAnalyser is the perfect e-mail reporting solution for organisations of any size, using MS Echange, Lotus Domino or Sendmail as their messaging platform or finding themselves in a mixed environment utilising more than one platform," adds Frasco.
