In what promises to be a fruitful partnership, Knotion, one of the country's leading enterprise architecture specialists and skills development consultancies, sponsored the speaker for the inaugural meeting of the Government Special Interest Group (SIG) on Enterprise Architecture that was hosted by the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) on 29 September.
“We started the EA SIG as a forum for informal sharing of ideas and knowledge on enterprise architecture matters,” says Chief Enterprise Architect, Willie Needham, of SITA. “Although our prime interest is to advance EA maturity in government, the forum is open to all EA practitioners and service providers.”
Knotion, strong advocates of applying international best practice as the smart way forward for local organisations, had brought Mark Peters, a consultant and trainer with BiZZdesign in the Netherlands, to South Africa to present ArchiMate courses. BiZZdesign is the only company fully endorsed for ArchiMate by the Open Group.
“The approximately 45 attendees at this first EA SIG included the Chairman of the Government IT Officers Council, Mr Julius Segole and various ICT leaders of government. Attendees were interested to have Peters bring them up to date with the new EA language from prominent European EA users,” adds Needham. “Peters also introduced a tool his company has developed, BiZZdesign Architect, which allows you to track and compare the various architectural transition states, which attendees found interesting.
In sponsoring the EA SIG seminar, Knotion has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing EA in government. The company has been involved in a number of public sector EA projects, including projects for SARS, Eskom , SA Police Service and, in particular, a pioneering project to assist the public sector in preparing for the implementation of the Government-wide Enterprise Architecture (GWEA).
The topic for the next SIG open seminar in late November will focus on a case study on how to measure compliance with Control Objectives for IT (COBIT).
