Empowerment services company Mthombo IT Services (M-IT) was launched at the Johannesburg Country Club in Auckland Park yesterday. The firm is an accredited service provider for both Compaq SA and Hewlett-Packard SA.
Dimension Data division i-Commerce has a 36% stake in M-IT, while management has a 54% holding. Provision has been made for a 10% employee share option scheme.
COO Lucky Khumalo, who previously worked at Compaq SA for three years, says the company will not play on its empowerment advantage but wants to be given an equal opportunity to pitch for and run contracts. His brother, Nkosinathi Khumalo, has been appointed as CEO. He has a financial background and was previously employed at SCMB and Investec.
According to Lucky Khumalo, this is a perfect match as the merging of sound business acumen and technical expertise will give M-IT an advantage over competitors.
"I`m looking forward to experiencing and participating in the rapid growth of this young company. M-IT`s focus on services is strategically sound," says Kevin Dees, country support manager for Hewlett-Packard SA. M-IT will focus on delivering maintenance and support services on hardware and operating systems. "We will not be in the business of dropping boxes as many of the other empowerment companies are," concludes Lucky Khumalo.
