New Fax product to revolutionise Fax Server market

Johannesburg, 02 Mar 2000

Prisma Solutions has launched itself into the Enterprise Fax market by being appointed as the African Distributor of ThruFax. "ThruFax is set to aggressively target new and existing Fax Server business," says Hugo Leuner MD of Prisma Solutions.

ThruFax is an add-on to any Fax Server. It acts as an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) fax routing facility, which reads faxes intelligently and determines the owner/destination of the fax, based on fields it has been configured to read. ThruFax can also be configured to recognise specific forms and route them accordingly.

Sending faxes is a highly controlled, predictable procedure as opposed to the arduous process of receipt and distribution of faxes. Although current electronic technologies improve reception efficiency, the solutions are comparatively expensive and difficult to implement and administer, requiring additional telecom configuration and overhead.

ThruFax incorporates two technologies namely OCR and ICR, which together read and convert hand written or typed faxes into format. The recipient then has the original fax together with an editable text version, forwarded to his mailbox without any human intervention.

"OCR and ICR engines have come a long way," says Leuner. "But ThruFax is the only Fax product I have seen which effectively utilises these technologies. Having been in the character recognition market for some tine now, I`m pleased to say we have The Solution to truly implement fax routing"

Prisma Solutions entered the character recognition market with TELEform, which owns 73% of the world`s capture market, according to Woods and Associates. Together with their resellers, Prisma Solutions has successfully implemented TELEform at Blue-chip organisations such as IEC, Telkom, Woolworths and Alexander Forbes

Now with the addition of ThruFax, Prisma Solutions is set to become South Africa`s leading provider of character recognition systems.

Newly formed Prisma Solutions was officially launched in July 1999 after MD; Hugo Leuner sold the flagship company Goaldata two months previously. Goaldata was formed in 1988 as a Value Added Distributor specialising in the distribution and support of a range of network based fax products.

In conjunction with their strong and committed reseller base the company had achieved the leading position in South Africa in the implementation of fax server solutions to a multitude of companies ranging from small businesses through to large enterprises with many thousands of users. By selecting only the worlds best products in their specific categories the company could ensure complete customer satisfaction and the high productivity gains guaranteed a rapid return on investment.

Two years ago, Goaldata entered the lucrative and rapidly growing market of automated data capture with a product called TELEform, which was developed by American software giant, Cardiff Software. High volumes of hand written or typed forms received by fax, scanner, file, Adobe PDF or even HTML (Internet) forms, are read by the program, verified and converted into digital format and written to a number of popular databases.
