Fibreplus, one of SA`s fastest growing distributors of fibre optic cable and accessories, has announced the availability of the R&MVISIONsystem, an alternative to conventional, structured generic building cabling.
The VISIONsystem is based on a single point of administration and requires no floor distributors. Connecting cables run from a central point on the LAN to each individual point of connection.
It can be structured as either a collapsed or extended backbone architecture. The latter option links several workstations together through an active network component on a single optical waveguide.
This open office structure is said to combine the advantages of flexible cabling for working areas and the single point of administration offered by fibre.
The VISIONsystem is especially attractive to companies looking to deploy tomorrow`s multimedia and technologies, says Fibreplus CEO Dave Fawcett.
"Confronted with a permanent need to increase capacity and change workstations, they require the greatest possible flexibility. Good examples of possible users are Internet service providers and telecom network operators."
The advantages of the VISIONsystem cabling structure include reduced space requirements, reduced error sources as a result of a single patch panel requirement and the option of optical waveguide as a fast transmission medium that meets Gigabit Ethernet standards.
