3Com SA has announced a new range of high-performance Gigabit Ethernet network switches based on 3Com`s own ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) technology.
According to Chris van Niekerk, country manager of 3Com SA, the SuperStack 3 switches, with associated software upgrades, build on 3Com`s existing portfolio of modular and stackable local area network (LAN) switches and are designed to improve network performance, scalability and efficiency by significant margins, 3Com has also launched new desktop and server network interface cards (NICs). They can be installed for an instant network upgrade or as part of an end-to-end Gigabit Ethernet network migration strategy, he says.
According to Van Niekerk, 3Com`s ASIC technology plays a key role in the new offerings. "It has transformed complex standards-based gigabit technologies into easy-to-use products based on both fibre and copper transport.
"Increasingly, enterprise users are deploying 3Com`s Gigabit Ethernet technology in server farms and data centres, as well as using it to upgrade existing 10/100 and ATM backbones to Gigabit Ethernet," he says.
