New governance software for project management
IT governance software that allows companies to develop products for project portfolio management has been introduced by Pacific Edge Software, ADTmag reports.
The article stated that Pacific Edge Mariner helps companies optimise performance, evaluate initiatives based on value and build a portfolio of investments. Mariner features portfolio, project, resource, demand and financial management components.
"Companies can mirror their existing workflow and processes in Mariner by using its drag-and-drop configuration tool. Mariner features ad-hoc analysis and charting, what-if and scenario planning, and approval workflow," ADTmag.com adds.
Mariner supports portfolio development with rollups based on levels of investment details. Pacific Edge claims companies can create visibility into their project portfolios in less than 30 days.
Project management background advantageous
Demand for open source/Linux developers will remain strong for the foreseeable future, according to a survey of the 90 top CIOs/CTOs released this month, online publication Counter Think reports.
But to nail the best job at the best salary, the survey of IT managers says architects and developers should blend open source skills with a business and project management background.
The article added that the Society for Information Management (SIM) released the results of its "IT Workforce Developments, Now and into the Future" CIO/CTO survey during its SIMposium conference in Boston, Massachusetts.
SIM survey coordinator and SIM member Dr Kate Kaiser said Linux ranked very highly among CTO/CIOs, as did some Java and .NET skills.
Other in-demand skills included systems analysis, systems design and disaster recovery skills - all critical to keeping the business running, she added.
