New handheld from HP offers productivity, mobile communications

Johannesburg, 27 Sep 2005

Tarsus Technologies has announced the arrival of the HP iPAQ hw6515 Mobile Messenger, which sports the functionality of HP`s conventional line of iPAQ personal digital assistants (PDAs) with the capabilities of a cellular telephone and a camera.

The hw6515 offers a holistic handheld solution that will allow users to work from anywhere.

"The iPAQ hw6515 uses Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition Software, Phone Edition," says Jason McMillan, product manager for Tarsus Technologies, "which includes Pocket versions of Microsoft software like Outlook, Word, Excel and Internet Explorer. These applications offer scaled down functionality, while at the same time allowing users to be fully productive while out of the office."

Editing documents, spreadsheets and e-mails is also made easy with the mini keyboard on the unit. "The diminutive keyboard on the hw6515 is useful for typing anything from Word documents to SMS messages," enthuses McMillan.

"Alternatively, users can write on the 3-inch transflective TFT QVGA screen with its 64 000 colours and LED backlight, using the included stylus."

The hw6515 has all the power required to get most jobs done. "Featuring the Intel PXA270 Processor at 312MHz and 128MB of total memory, the hw6515 is a powerful handheld," explains McMillan. "It is also versatile with SD and Mini SD slots that support 1-bit SDIO and 4-bit SD/MMC type memory."

Compatibility for three wireless network standards ensures that the hw6515 always remains connected. "The hw6515 can connect to GSM, GPRS and EDGE networks, keeping users connected for voice and data at high speeds while on the move," says McMillan.

"Not only does the hw6515 include Microsoft`s range of Pocket Office applications, but this savvy number incorporates all of HP`s exclusive applications such as iPAQ Wireless, GSM/GPRS Settings Manager, GPS Navigation, HP Profiles, as well as MMS Composer. Users also have access to Bluetooth Manager, iPAQ File Store, iPAQ Backup, HP Image Zone for Pocket PC and a host of other standard Microsoft applications including Voice Recorder, Windows Media Player 10 and VPN Client.

The HP hw6515 also sports a built-in HP Photosmart camera, making it easy to take pictures and share them with colleagues and friends by sending them wirelessly to any e-mail address.

"With an ergonomic design featuring programmable quick-launch buttons and a navigational joystick, voice record button, microphone, speakers and headphone jack, the hw6515 has a battery life that will keep users connected and mobile for hours. HP`s iPAQ hw6515 Mobile Messenger affords you the freedom to do almost anything you can at the office and more - like not getting lost in traffic with the included GPS functionality," concludes McMillan.

The HP iPAQ hw6515 Mobile Messenger retails for R5 999, including VAT.
