Packeteer Inc., a leading provider of Internet application infrastructure systems, today introduced the PacketShaper 6500 series, a 100Mbps wire-speed addition to the company`s award-winning PacketShaper product line.
The PacketShaper 6500 is designed to meet the needs of large enterprises and service providers by allowing high capacity, wire-speed application traffic and bandwidth management for IP networks
The 6500 series has landed in South Africa and is distributed by Thin Client Technologies t/a IT Wise. Says technical director, Pieter Olivier: "PacketShaper is a policy-based application traffic and bandwidth management solution that brings predictable, efficient performance to applications running over enterprise WANs and the Internet. It discovers and classifies application traffic on the network, analyses its performance, enforces bandwidth allocation and quality of service, and generates reports on service levels. The PacketShaper`s rich and scalable bandwidth provisioning and management capabilities are used by Internet, hosting and network service providers to deliver value-added IP services."

PacketShapers are currently in use by a number of Global 2000 enterprise customers and service providers. More than 75 universities in the US also use PacketShapers to facilitate availability of their mission-critical applications despite the increasing use of Napster and other peer-to-peer file-swapping programmes.
