New HP SA CEO meets the team

Johannesburg, 06 Oct 2004

Thoko Mokgosi, HP`s new CEO in SA, is spending her first week on the job getting to know her team, before meeting partners or making strategic announcements.

Mokgosi took on the newly-created CEO`s role on 1 October. This comes several months after the company`s SA country manager, Henry Ferreira, was promoted to a position in Europe.

Mokgosi is holding meetings with employees and teams within HP SA, and will meet partners and customers later.

Ken Willett, HP MD of international sales Europe and Solutions Group, said in announcing Mokgosi`s appointment that she had been the divisional MD of Siemens Telecommunications, and more recently held the position of CEO with Alcatel South Africa. She has a Bachelor of Science with an MSC in Chemistry, and also completed executive courses through Harvard and IMD in Switzerland.

She worked in senior positions for several multinational pharmaceutical companies, including Glaxo and Merck, before focusing her career on IT and communications.

"SA is a diverse and dynamic market with tremendous growth prospects," said Willett. "During the past few months we have taken great care to find the best person to lead our business in SA. [Mokgosi] brings with her a wealth of experience in diverse markets and a strong focus on understanding and meeting customer needs."
