New HP solution brings colour laser printing to MFP arena

Johannesburg, 22 Sep 2005

Multifunction printers have until now generally offered acceptable, but by no means high-end results in terms of their functionality. HP`s introduction of the Colour LaserJet 2800 All-in-One series has effectively raised the bar.

This series includes the 2820 without fax capabilities and the 2840 which has standard faxing facilities, offering true functionality in network printing, faxing, scanning and direct digital photo printing in one space-saving design.

With the release of HP`s 2800, however, customers now have the benefits of the best quality colour laser printer without sacrificing the high-end functionality they would normally expect from professional, standalone faxing, scanning and copying devices.

"The HP Color LaserJet 2800 All-In-One series not only offers peak performance from a multifunction perspective, but also maximises productivity, featuring robust print and copy speeds of up to 20 pages per minute (ppm) in monochrome and 4ppm in colour from its standard 250-sheet input tray," explains Drikus van der Walt, HP product manager at Tarsus Technologies.

"In today`s highly competitive printer market, vendors are continuously striving to provide not only superior printing technology, but the most cost-effective as well. Laser printing addresses both, and with the 2800, savings are effected on both conventional printing and from the device`s copying and fax-printing functionality," he says.

The versatile 2800 also includes memory card slots for quick printing of digital photographs. "There is virtually no printing job that this new unit can not handle" claims Van der Walt, "and with its space-saving design and awesome speeds in printing, faxing and scanning, it will not only save money, but time and space as well."

Fax speeds are enabled at up to three seconds a page, thanks to the included Super G3 fax technology and scanning is possible at resolutions of up to 19 200dpi.

"The MFP also includes HP`s embedded Jetdirect 10/100 Fast Ethernet wired networking solution for quick connectivity to a network, not to mention a fast USB 2 port for personal use and workgroup printer sharing," adds Van der Walt.

The system is easily managed via its backlit display panel, where users can print images directly from one of seven memory cards that the 2 800 provides slots for. Also included are the HP Toolbox, the HP Embedded Web Server, and HP Web Jetadmin remote management software that allows customers to adjust settings, receive alerts, check status, and manage network and memory card slot access settings.

"Overall, the HP 2800 is a welcome addition to the HP line of output solutions, and with its superior performance and quality printing, positions HP even more strongly in the workgroup and SME multifunction space," he concludes.
