New IBM Tivoli software that uses digital identities to automate business processes regardless of the applications on which they run will help South African organisations achieve a return on investment of up to 300%.
By providing an automated environment for business critical processes, IBM`sTivoli Access Manager family of software products also enables organisations to adapt more easily to market threats and opportunities - and become on-demand businesses.
Tivoli sales manager for IBM South and Central Africa, Rebecca Motau, says the tight economic circumstances of recent years has made South African businesses look for ways to do more with less.
"Automation is one of the best ways of achieving that. The point is to find something that is both fundamental and common to many different processes, so that automating it will create significant efficiencies across the board.
"In e-business, that fundamental and common factor is user identity information. It is needed in just about every business process and, therefore, in most software applications. Users have to log on, for example, to check their bank balances, update their sick leave forms, process a purchase order or check a product`s delivery status.
"But, until now, checking and managing digital identity has been a largely manual process - costly and time-intensive.
"With the new Tivoli features we`ve changed all that, enabling customers to drastically reduce costs and easily meet compliance requirements, improve service levels and bolster security.
"In effect, we`ve used digital identities to move a customer`s operational focus away from information technology (IT) and back to business effectiveness."
IBM Tivoli Identity Manager, Privacy Manager, Directory Integrator and Directory Server have all been enhanced with new automation and integration features. The features focus on four areas - automated access, privacy enforcement, automated user provisioning and workflow.
Two new functions add intelligence to applications to ensure that system resources are engaged based on business need, resulting in increased efficiency, reduced costs and an adaptive business environment.
A new Dynamic Rules Engine automatically pulls user attribute information directly from any source - from the finance or human resources departments, says, or partner and supply chain applications - to make complex access control decisions. This eliminates redundant access control lists and allows companies to quickly react to changing business conditions.
The new Dynamic Group Support function reduces administrative costs and improves agility by dynamically responding to internal organisational changes, such as mergers and acquisitions, by quickly integrating new users and automatically adjusting access security policies. It also enables companies to apply access control decisions for employees, partners or suppliers based on organisation membership, job codes, divisions or reseller categories.
IBM Tivoli Privacy Manager now provides real-time compliance checks of up to 100 transactions per second and new monitors for packaged and custom applications that can help speed deployment of privacy management.
IBM Tivoli Identity Manager includes an advanced workflow engine that automates customer workflow requests based on specific business policies - such as opening a Help Desk ticket or revoking an employee`s security badge. A new automated lifecycle management feature also lets organisations either customise processes or modify out-of-the-box processes, and automatically execute them.
IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator provides real-time synchronisation among more identity data sources so that enterprises can establish an authoritative, up-to-date identity data infrastructure.
New integration between IBM Tivoli Identity Manager and IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator makes creating links between IBM`s user provisioning software and custom applications faster and easier. This speeds implementation of identity management projects by leveraging disparate data sources - such as multiple directories and databases. Identity Manager can then use the authoritative data source for specific types of information and ensure that the software has the most up-to-date information at all times.
