New iPad pricing released

The local distributor of the new iPad, the Core Group, has unveiled the prices of the latest version of its iconic tablet.

The new iPad, which will hit SA's shores on Friday, will sell from just under R5 000 for an entry-level device. According to the Core Group's Web site, a 16GB tablet with will sell for R4 999, while the 64GB WiFi-enabled iPad is set to for R6 999.

The 16GB tablet with 4G will go for R6 299 and the top-level tablet, 64GB with 4G, will sell for R8 299. Grey devices have been available in the market since just after the global launch and have been selling for between R7 950 for the entry-level unit and R9 920 for the 4G 64GB device.

Apple launched the new iPad - commonly referred to as the iPad 3 - early in March. Its latest iPad has LTE support and features a new Retina display, A5X chip, quad-core graphics, 5MP iSight camera and 1080p HD video.

At the beginning of March, Core dropped the cost of the iPad 2. Any entry-level WiFi iPad 2 is available for R3 999, while the 3G-enabled models have dropped by between R1 000 and R1 400. The top-of-the-range tablet - the 64GB with 3G - is now R7 299.
