Lotus` standards-based and open architecture e-learning platform is now fully compliant with the Aviation Industry CBT Committee (AICC) guidelines, the most widely accepted standard for integrating content with learning platforms.

"The new version of Lotus LearningSpace expands its database support to include DB2 6.1 and Oracle 8.16 and now offers tighter integration for existing NETg and SmartForce training content, allowing the content it to be easily managed and tracked within the Lotus LearningSpace system," says Lesego Tlhabanelo, marketing communications manager at Lotus Development SA.

In addition, Lotus LearningSpace 4.01, the key technology component of IBM Mindspan Solutions, now provides enhanced support for e-learning courseware from content development organisations NETg and SmartForce. NETg and SmartForce offer an extensive e-learning portfolio including information technology, desktop/end-user and personal development skills.

With these enhancements, Lotus LearningSpace 4.01 customers now have the ability to launch, track and e-learning courseware provided by NETg and SmartForce.

"Managers and administrators are able to track assessment scores and monitor student progress through these course offerings," he says.

Lotus has also released LearningSpace Forum 3.5, which enables the creation and delivery of asynchronous, instructor-led and self-paced e-learning in a Lotus Domino Release 5 (R5) environment, for the AIX platform.

LearningSpace Forum 3.5 offers enterprises the full advantage of Lotus Domino features such as replication, disconnected use and support for more platforms, including S/390 and AS/400, and operating systems including Windows NT, AIX and Sun Solaris.

Also, companies looking to provide their users with a learning tool to assist them in the migration Notes 4.x to Notes 5.x may now take advantage of Lotus` new e-learning offering in this space. The software vendor has also released its Notes Release 4-5 User Migration e-learning Bundle. This combines LearningSpace Forum 3.5 online delivery with courses and reference materials from Lotus to provide a flexible e-learning solution that is easy to deploy, allows users to learn where and when it is convenient, and is optimised for Web-based delivery.

"The Lotus Notes Release 4-5 User Migration e-learning Bundle is designed to empower customers migrating to Lotus Notes R5 and provide them with the tools they need to manage the transition," says Tlhabanelo.

These offerings are available to replace or complement other e-learning enablement initiatives," he concludes.
