Cyclades Corporation has announced a new product for server-based networking.
The Cyclades-PC300 is a PCI adapter that supports 1 or 2 serial WAN ports for Internet and inter-office connectivity that replaces access routers with cost and performance advantages.
With an innovative design, the PC300 leverages on the networking support provided by the Operating System and the low cost of PC hardware to offer the ideal connectivity solution for small and medium businesses and corporate remote offices.
Initially offered in a model that supports 1 serial WAN interface (either RS-232, V.35 or X.21) supported under Linux, the PC300 family will soon be available in a 2 port model as well as models with built-in DSU/CSU for direct connection to the communication line.
PC300 will soon support Windows platforms as well.
Applications and Benefits
The PC300 is used instead of access routers (such as the Cyclades-PathRouter and Cisco 10XX, 16XX, 25XX, and 26XX, etc.) and connect remote offices using standard PC servers with cost and management advantages without sacrificing performance. It can also be used to build advanced communication systems based on industry-standard components. Because it leverages on the networking support built into operating systems such as Linux and NT, the solutions provides connectivity without requiring the user to install an external box and learn a new Operating System.
