DNS Services, a subsidiary of the DNS Group - a JSE-listed Dimension Data Holdings company - has announced the latest refinement in its locally-developed network infrastructure management technology - RMC (Remote Management Centre) 2.0.
Said to be one of the most advanced network management platforms of its kind in the world, RMC 2.0 is Web-based, which facilitates access from anywhere in the world using any electronic communications device.
"Furthermore, its ability to integrate fully with virtually any technology platform enables monitoring of a variety of interfaces, including access servers, services, operating systems, switchboards and PLCs," says DNS Services MD Mike Maree.
RMC 2.0 performs two key functions integrated into one interface. Firstly, explains Maree, it continually interrogates the devices in the network infrastructure for data relating to their performance or "health".
"This information is stored in a database for later analysis. At the same time, it compares this data to a set of predefined thresholds, and creates alarms, and appropriately escalated trouble ticket notifications if these critical thresholds are approached or have been exceeded.
"From a security perspective, the system can be configured so that people who are responsible for a specific portion of the network infrastructure can address only that element," says Maree.
Other functions include desktop monitoring and management and an automated back-up process.
Web based realtime reports showing availability, trends and traffic patterns are also available.
"This enables us to demonstrate the performance parameters of their infrastructure and enable capacity planning for the environment to be undertaken based on a sound and detailed knowledge of the environment," says Maree.
"RMC 2.0 is unique in that it is the only management platform in the world able to provide a breakdown of the top ten interfaces in any specific network infrastructure."
So far, customer response to RMC 2.0 has been overwhelming, according to Maree. "Pilot users have been impressed by its ability to automatically integrate into an SMS engine and send an SMS message to a cell phone, at the same time monitoring as many interfaces to the infrastructure as is required."
