New-look Norton launched

Johannesburg, 16 Oct 2000

Symantec has launched the latest suite of its desktop utilities, which includes coverage from Windows 95 to 2000, and sports a new look to portray its change in corporate focus as an provider.

The complete suite includes Norton Utilities, Anti-Virus, CleanSweep, Desktop Firewall, parental control and content filter, as well as Norton Ghost, which have all arrived in their 2001 flavours. Most significant for consumers, is that a single purchase covers both the NT- and 95-based desktop operating systems.

The new look packaging has relegated the familiar face of Peter Norton to the side panel of the box and replaced it with an industrial style logo. All the products have been worked over to make them compatible with Microsoft's Windows 2000 operating system.

For power users who have migrated to Windows 2000, Symantec has provided access to the same suite of utilities that were available on the Windows 95/98 platform. Symantec also announced that the complete range of products is compatible with the Windows ME platform.

New to the suite is the company's Internet Security 2001 product that comes in three flavours: personal firewall, Internet security and Family Edition, all of which contain a desktop firewall, with all but the firewall version also including Norton AntiVirus. The Family Edition features a set of user management tools and content filtering .
