New-look Telkom branches spell a new era for customer service

Johannesburg, 28 Oct 2003

Telkom today officially launched a countrywide drive to re-brand and transform its shops into world-class retail outlets to be called Telkom Direct.

This is good news for customers who can now look forward to even better service from Telkom, ranging from accessibility of shops/outlets to a range of products and services, including service in their own language.

Launching the Canal Walk Telkom Direct in Cape Town today, Telkom`s customer services managing executive, Motlatsi Nzeku, explained that the refurbished outlets would ensure a successful transformation from a traditional service-only facility to a modern retail shop interface, with a wide range of communication products and services, more displays and demonstration areas for customers` convenience.

"They will boast a more professional and customer-friendly layout, improved d'ecor, a stronger and more visible corporate identity, as well as better internal signage and product displays," said Nzeku.

"We will also offer improved security, promotional and in-store videos," he assured.

Nzeku added that Telkom intended optimising automated payment facilities in some outlets in the form of self-help terminals, thus improving service delivery.

Customers can expect the following from Telkom`s Direct outlets:

* Advice on and assistance in the application of new services that would suit customers` specific lifestyle and circumstances.

* Facility to purchase Phonecards, Prepaid vouchers, WorldCall cards, fixed-line telephone instruments, cellular handsets and a wide range of communication accessories. Customer Premises Equipment like telephone instruments, WorldCalll cards, TelkomInternet and others.

* Surf the Internet, and experience the speed of the ADSL and ISDN technologies, all this in the comfort of the shop.

* Access to self-help terminals enabling customers to obtain most of the services available over the counter in an efficient self-help manner.

"As face-to-face channels, our outlets are essentially a window of Telkom for customers, and form an integral part of our drive to improve customer satisfaction," Nzeku said.
