Sean O'Connell has been appointed as managing director of the Software Futures KKM group.
O'Connell, a member of the group's executive committee, previously worked in various areas of the company and was managing director of Software Futures Coastal.
In his capacity as MD, O'Connell's mandate is twofold.
"My aim is to build on our excellent strategic outsourcing track record nationally, as well as to embrace and leverage offshore outsourcing opportunities. I believe these goals are attainable through best practice, partnerships and continued skills development."
Another key issue for O'Connell is facilitating IT growth in SA. "There aren't enough skills to fill even core positions today, making skills development within the IT industry crucial. But there needs to be a genuine commitment - we need real learnership programmes with real outcomes. We believe that SA has the potential to be the next outsourcing hub, and Software Futures will be at the forefront of those initiatives."
O'Connell has been working within the IT industry for the past 19 years, advancing through the ranks from software developer to management. He has an impressive track record, extensive experience and a comprehensive understanding of the IT environment in general. His approach is focused primarily on maximising return on investment for customers, transparency and reliability.
Says O'Connell: "To be successful in the IT environment you need a fundamental understanding of the industry, and to be a realist as to what works and what doesn't. I don't believe in computing for the sake of gee, whiz, bang. I believe in utilising and maximising computing to make lives easier, more efficient, and to ultimately deliver."
