Adam Jones, previously Namitech`s executive director of finance and corporate services, has been appointed MD of the company.

He will assume the responsibility for the day-to-day running of the business while Rex Tomlinson, the current CEO, will remain actively involved in driving the strategic direction of the group.

Jones explains that the timing of his appointment was brought forward because Nampak has sold Namitech to Altech, subject to approval from the Competitions Commission.

"From my side, it is a really great time to be taking over," he says. "From a Namitech and perspective, this is a big positive because we are moving into a company that has an IT perspective and a long-term vision for the company."

He explains that Namitech manufactures smart cards at a time when are migrating to a chip-based credit card system and prepaid telecoms are expanding into Africa. "We are a fairly significant player in the sub-Saharan region and we will hopefully gain market share going forward."

Tomlinson will retain his position until the conclusion of the sale to Altech.

"Adam has made a major contribution to Namitech`s success since joining the group over three years ago. He has a thorough understanding of the business and is supported by a strong management team," Tomlinson says. "I am confident he will continue to grow Namitech in his role as MD."

Jones is a B.Comm, BAcc graduate from Witwatersrand University and a qualified CA (SA).
