Intel`s networking message for Intel Developer Forum Conference, Fall 2000, has been quite surprising. The future of networking is peer-to-peer, says the company.
Inspired by the likes of Napster, the company is throwing itself behind this strategy that it says will help business take advantage of unutilised processing power and storage. It sees the technology as important as Mosaic was to the Internet, and used this example frequently when describing its new vision.
"Napster was just the start," comments Pat Gelsinger, VP and CTO, Intel Architecture Group. He believes there will be no limit for this architecture`s potential.
Dr Craig Barrett, Intel`s president and CEO, believes this disparate computing model will spark innovation for those who adopt it. He does, however, note that there are issues that need to be tackled before peer-to-peer can be used pervasively in the enterprise, such as standards and security issues.
