New online procurement technology proves highly cost-effective

Johannesburg, 28 Oct 2002

Enterprise Connection is proving again that innovation is instrumental if your aim is to differentiate yourself in the IT market. The recent launch of EVAR (Electronic Value Added Reseller), a value-added service that lowers the administrative burden associated with procurement of IT products, licensing and services, supports their thinking and work ethic.

An effective way to address the critical needs of licensing support, Enterprise Connection, in conjunction with Digital Enterprise, a Web application solutions company, has developed this Web-based procurement tool to provide clients with total control over purchases of hardware and software.

Designed specifically to complement Enterprise Connection`s LicenseRight solution, EVAR works to meet the requirements of clients who want customised solutions unique to their business. For example, companies can now buy off individualised catalogues and price lists, a feature that allows you to generate your own quotations for pre-configured equipment.

Relieving the administrative headache associated with IT procurement, EVAR has improved asset management whereby all purchases are electronically recorded with all required asset information.

"What you can measure, you can manage. We want to offer our clients convenience and flexibility," says Faiza Brown, Senior Microsoft Licensing Administrator of Enterprise Connection. "Companies now have very strict anti-piracy policies and want to know exactly where they stand with the licensing of their hardware and software. They need to be in complete control, and EVAR facilitates that down to the very last detail."

User-friendly, EVAR allows for an efficient reporting structure, easy conversion of data into standard formats and facilitates management of inventory. It also allows access to information anytime and anywhere.

"As an ASP solution, EVAR`s utilisation simply requires an Internet browser. There is no investment in software and no impact or risk on current systems. It is also fully endorsed and supported by companies such as Tarsus and HP," says Johan de Villiers, General Manager for Enterprise Connection.

In addition to the obvious benefits in administration, financial benefits seem to follow close behind and appear equally impressive.

The EVAR system even works to eliminate maverick spending by controlling procurement against predetermined budgets per cost centre across all divisions in an organisation, regardless of their geographic dispersion.

The standardisation of the procurement process also leads to a decrease in total cost of ownership, as fewer support staff are required to maintain equipment. This, in turn, increases procurement with preferred suppliers, giving clients improved purchasing power.

An excellent financial tool, EVAR allows a company`s financial decision makers to see exactly what is being purchased. The full track-and-trace of hardware and software orders means greater visibility from requisitions to receipt.

With the benefits of time saving and cost saving, Enterprise Connection`s EVAR system is on track to challenge the procurement process of many companies in SA and creates a great differentiator in the IT market.
