New online resource for SMEs

Johannesburg, 06 Apr 2005

Microsoft has launched a locally hosted small business Web site to help owners of small companies to improve their business operations.

"The Web site is aimed at helping small businesses to access resources and the support they need to improve business operations, as well as enhance communication with their customers and suppliers," says Kaylash Bhana, small business segment manager at Microsoft SA.

"Microsoft created a place where users are able to get local content relevant to their business needs, helping them make better business decisions and improve relationships with their partners, suppliers and customers," says Bhana.

"The portal also aims to help small business owners by highlighting relevant issues, such as and competitiveness. It offers a variety of resources, from guidance, to interactive content demonstrating to customers how they can get more out of technology.

"The Small Business Centre was initiated globally in March 2004, and is now available locally and to more than 40 countries, where Microsoft is able to provide users with localised information."

Bhana says the local SME sector is growing fast as a key player in the future growth of SA`s economy, representing more than 1.5 million self-employed in our economy, and contributes about 40% of total remuneration in SA.

"SMEs are not only looking for the opportunity to get the best technologies that can help grow their businesses, but are willing to invest in proven technologies."

Bhana says the portal is a free that is available on the Microsoft Web site at www.Microsoft.com/southafrica/smallbusiness
