SCSI Technology, local agent for DTP products, has announced the release of the latest range of DPT controllers that are now designed to providing RAID solutions for low and high-end installations.

"The new range of DPT SmartRAID V controllers are available in 32 and 64-bit configurations and include a variety of add-on options which allow them to be easily upgraded," says Jessy Naicker, MD of SCSI Technology. "This flexibility also helps to reduce the initial purchase price, by allowing prospective users to install a basic configuration and then upgrade it later, making RAID an affordable option in server installations of almost any size."

The SmartRAID V product range includes the Decade, Century and Millennium controllers. The Decade is DPT`s low cost entry-level 32-bit controller which offers users a single Ultra2 SCSI interface with hardware RAID and 4MB of cache RAM expandable to 64MB.

"The Century is an `intelligent` 32-bit controller which has a CPU integrated into its design that assists in reducing the load on the server`s processor. This has the effect of increasing data throughput and overall system performance," says Naicker.

The DPT Decade and Century`s performance may also be improved by installing an add-on card with additional cache RAM. Top of the range is the SmartRAID V Millennium DPT controller which is available in 32 or 64-bit, Ultra2 and Fibre Channel configurations.

"The Millennium RAID controller has been specifically designed as a RAID solution for the enterprise and can deliver up to 100MB/s with Ultra2 and 200MB/s with Fibre Channel. The Fibre Channel controller is also able to join drives that are up to 10km apart when connected by fibre optic cable, as opposed to the conventional 12 metres for Ultra2 controllers," adds Naicker.

Additional add-on devices include extra Fibre or Ultra2 interfaces and in the case of DPT Millennium Ultra2, a battery backup for the controller`s onboard cache to prevent data loss in the event of a server failure.
