New SANRAD data replication and disaster recovery solution for ISCSI IP SANS

Johannesburg, 11 Jan 2005

LDR, the first in a series of data replication and disaster recovery solutions from SANRAD Incorporated, a leader in intelligent iSCSI IP SAN solutions, is now available in SA through the JSE-listed Square One Solutions Group.

A value-added reseller for SANRAD in South Africa, Square One Solutions believes the capability of the LDR to provide campus-wide data replication and disaster recovery for multi-building/multi-site companies and organisations such as military installations, universities, medical centres, financial institutions and government, has huge potential.

"LDR provides business continuity and security for any operation dependent upon uninterrupted access to data," says Luca Ambrosi, Square One's National Practice Manager, Storage.

SANRAD's LDR combines both hardware and software and is easy to configure. Ambrosi says the system offers continuous, real-time data mirroring as well as automatic switch-over in the event of a site or system outage.

"For any IP SAN built around the SANRAD V-Switch, LDR continually mirrors critical data at 250MBps onto between two and four separate storage systems. These can be physically located in separate buildings within a business complex or in different areas within a large building. A secondary active access point to the data can be provided by a V-Switch at the alternate site by attaching the V-Switch to the storage system and server network."

It is a comprehensive disaster recovery solution. Ambrosi says the SANRAD LDR synchronously mirrors in real-time over existing optical or copper cables within a building or business complex. In a contained disaster, data from the remote target volume is automatically and instantly made available and accessible to the original application server or an alternative application server.

"This ensures 100% operational continuity for the business or organisation. When the local site becomes functional again, SANRAD LDR remains fully online and will resynchronise the local site with the data at the secondary site. All users and applications can then be redirected back to the local site."

The LDR solution is able to support 256 servers, 64 000 volumes and up to 5.4 petabytes of capacity within SANRAD-based IP SANs.
