Both Facebook and Twitter have expanded their search functions, to enable users to easily find what they are looking for.
Until now, the Facebook search function has only been available on English-language versions of the social networking site, but has now been expanded to include other languages, reports SAPA.
The Graph Search that used to be limited to pages or people has also been upgraded to include individuals, their preferences, interests, photos and other personal information.
Searches can now be refined however the user wants, meaning you can search for others based on their preferences. If a user clicked "like" on a specific page years ago and has long since forgotten about it, it can still easily be pulled up using the search function.
Meanwhile, Twitter has also enhanced its user experience by overhauling the search function for its apps on Android and iOS.
Reportedly, the search function now allows users to expand searches for people beyond just their names to include additional information and their profile picture, making it easier to find friends, celebrities and acquaintances.
To access the new search, users will have to upgrade their Twitter programme. The update will reportedly also allow messages to be synchronised across devices, meaning an item read on a smartphone will be noted as such on a desktop. Until now, they would appear as unread on the one, even if read on the other.
According to SAPA, the Electronic Frontier Foundation has urged people to be sparing with the personal information they share online and use the relevant privacy settings to control what information they share with who.
