A new Web site, Mobile-QandA.com, has been launched for South African cellular phone users.

The site was founded by Cape Town-based Eric Edelstein and Durban-based Eran Eyal, who believe they have identified a gap in the online community for this kind of .

"We are a commercial site, but at the same time we want to help the cellular community with unbiased commentary and reviews, and allow for the sharing of information," Edelstein says.

With almost 20 million cellphone users in the country and a multitude of competing products to choose from, South African cellphone users are finding it difficult to make decisions on what phone to buy and how to make the most of the various features, they say.

"What is needed is some way for the average person to make sense of the products and the various offerings," Edelstein says.

The site is hosted offshore, but Edelstein says they are considering bringing it to SA in order to increase response times.

The site was designed by Cape Town Web design studio Goldfish.co.za, whose owner, Fran Webber, says the design was based on style sheets with varied fonts and colours rather than images in order to allow for fast loading.

"We used community service which is very style sheet driven," she says.

Edelstein says the site has about 75 members and receives between 200 and 300 visitors per day.
