New site makes house hunting simple

OnShowHouse.com is a new Web service that shows properties for sale and on show in a particular region.

Sellers can list properties for sale that will be on show over the coming weekend, which enables buyers to easily browse through properties that will be on show in their areas, and navigate to those houses using the site's mapping system.

The site includes on a variety of properties, including farms, commercial properties, apartments and houses, in SA, the US, the UK, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

"At our core, we are a global property listing Web site, simplified," says Scott Harris, co-founder and CEO of OnShowHouse.com. "The need that we fulfil is quite simple: in general, no house or real estate is sold without a viewing first. What we do is allow people to easily find on-show property in seconds."

Someone looking to purchase a house normally has to do a tremendous amount of research, explains Harris, such as looking through papers and browsing Web sites, calling agents and arranging show times. OnShowHouse.com gathers all this information into a single, interactive map to allow for easy planning and research.

Unlike many property classifieds, OnShowHouse.com charges a base listing price of $5, with individuals able to buy a discounted subscription for multiple ads. Larger agencies are able to buy bulk listing plans, which are scaled in cost.

The site launched on 9 May, and the current focus of the business is on online advertising campaigns to spread awareness. Harris also mentions potential for future services and growth: "Since bringing all the elements of our system together, we've realised the potential we have infrastructurally, and we're already working on three more projects using the technology that is available to us."

Harris sees the simplified property service cornering the market. "Our goal is to be the world's single location for property - like a Google for property," he enthuses.
