Compaq Computer today introduced the new addition to its Presario desktop range of PCs. The Presario 3008AE is aimed at the SOHO market with features such as Compaq`s matchbox form factor for a smaller footprint and a choice of 17-inch CRT or 15-inch flat panel monitor.
The 3008AE includes as standard an Intel Pentium III 933MHz processor and 128MB RAM as well as a 20GB hard drive, 12x DVD ROM drive, Intel 810 graphics with 8MB shared memory, 56K V.90 modem and ESS Allegro audio system. The keyboard incorporates Compaq`s Easy Access buttons and keys for Instant Internet, Instant E-Mail and Instant Search as well as access to DVD-ROM drive functions. In addition to the usual rear-mounted I/O interfaces, the unit features two front-mounted USB ports for easier connection of peripherals.
Says Andrea Cason, account manager, consumer channel sales for Compaq in South Africa, "The main markets for the new Presario 3008AE are small and home offices looking for a PC that requires little more than plugging in to get up and running. The new matchbox form factor and option of a 15-inch flat panel display makes this model one of the smallest desktop systems available from Compaq and ideal for SOHO applications where space is at a premium. With the inclusion of software such as Microsoft Windows Me, Word and Works 2000 and McAfee VirusScan, the new Presario is the ideal fit for users requiring instant productivity and computing power combined with the support of the Compaq brand."
