The new release of SMARTS InCharge has been announced, with availability in South Africa "within two months".
Andre Odendaal, Managing Director of South African SMARTS business partner NSS, says the focus of the new release is on improving the levels of automation and general ease of use while broadening the overall platform support.
"Most notably, InCharge now supports the Linux operating environment," he says. "Perhaps the most significant change is the addition of automated workflow into InCharge Service Assurance Manager. This is the part of the solution that deals with the handling and correlation of events within a service-oriented infrastructure. The addition of a workflow capability brings greater control to the management solution."
A major benefit of the SMARTS solution is the speed and efficiency with which it is able to determine the most likely cause of problems. This is based upon its CodeBook technology and allows state-driven event handling based on a strong CIM management model. InCharge 6.0 has improved its discovery and modelling processes to provide further improvements within InCharge Availability Manager.
"In addition there are changes to InCharge Performance Manager that improve the traffic analysis through cards, memory and interfaces so that it is possible to identify the underused as well as the overstretched parts of the managed environment. It has added a single console that displays information from all of the different tools in the InCharge suite."
SMARTS, Odendaal explains, is founded on strong mathematical modelling skills. Unsurprisingly, he states, this is reflected in the nature of the InCharge solution that makes it one of the innovative and most capable in the market for enterprise management solutions. Much of the effort required to generate a strong and accurate model of the service infrastructure is carried out away from the operational environment. It is the model that is then applied to 'live` systems.
"The amount of run-time calculation required is negligible, giving greater efficiency and the completeness of the model ensures good accuracy when diagnosing problems. With greater automation, these efficiencies will now extend to the reaction to these problems as they are identified."
